Como midfielder backs Barcelona megastar to win Ballon d’Or: ‘What he does is incredible’
Como midfielder backs Barcelona megastar to win Ballon d’Or: ‘What he does is incredible’ Lamine Yamal has received another public endorsement for the Ballon d’Or , this time from Como midfielder Luis Milla, who believes the Barcelona winger deserves the award despite the unusually open nature of this year’s race. Notably, Yamal is one of the leading names heading into the ceremony in London on October 26. His case is built on a season in which he helped Barcelona win La Liga, and Spain lift the World Cup, while his performances have kept him at the centre of the individual award conversation. Raphinha’s start to the new campaign has added another debate, but the Brazilian is not among the Ballon d’Or contenders. Even so, his form has been impossible to overlook as Barcelona have opened the season in spectacular fashion. If it were down to titles and quality, the best would be Fabian Ruiz (PSG). “But it’s clear that right now I’d give it to Lamine Yamal, in terms of flair, age… What he does is incredible.” The Como midfielder also had plenty to say about another Barcelona attacker. “I really enjoy watching Raphinha – he’s a complete player who makes his teammates better. But he’s not in the running,” he noted. Yamal has another case to make Lamine Yamal is one of the favourites to win the award. (Photo by Clive Brunskill/Getty Images) Milla ultimately returned to the prospect of Yamal becoming the youngest player to win the award. “For me, it would be spectacular if Lamine, at the age of 19, were to win the Ballon d’Or. And I think he deserves it.” Yamal has already made his position known, saying he believes he deserves the award ahead of Kylian Mbappe. Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane is another prominent name in the conversation. There is still a considerable amount of football to be played before the ceremony, but Barcelona’s attacking pair are approaching the season from very different positions. Raphinha is producing the numbers and influence that make him one of Barça’s most important players, while Yamal is trying to turn another outstanding campaign into the biggest individual prize in football.
